14.7.99 COU The Chinese Medicine Ordinance was passed by the Legislative Council (LegCo) on 14 July 1999 to regulate the practice, use, trading and manufacture of Chinese medicine. - - The Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong (CMC) and it two Boards were set up in September 1999.

CMC set up a registration system for Chinese medicine practitioners. Chinese medicine practitioners practicing in Hong Kong were invited to apply for registration under the transitional arrangements during August to December 2000. The first batch of registered Chinese medicine practitioners was announced in August 2002.
