16.12.98 CQ Dr Hon David LI raised a question on the safety of passengers on the platforms of MTR stations in view of the incident that a passenger on the platform of a MTR station was allegedly shoved onto the railway track by a psychiatric patient and was seriously injured by an oncoming train. Hon CHENG Kar-foo moved a motion that the Administration should urge the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL) to provide fare concessions to cross-harbour passengers traveling on the Tseung Kwan O Line and Kwan Tong Line during the fine-tuning and testing stage of Tseung Kwan O Line. Members were particularly concerned about the arson incident on 5.1.04 where a passenger unlawfully ignitied some inflammable materials on a MTR train traveling from Tsim Sha Tsui Station to Admiralty Station. 10.3.04 CQ Hon LAU Kong-wah raised a question on a number of incidents involving malfunctioning of the signaling system occurred in West Rail in January and February 2004, which caused disruption and even suspension of train service. [Hansard "page 35"]

9.10.04 PRESS KCRC completed a detailed investigation into the broken steel wheel tyre incident of Light Rail occurred on 10.9.04 and submitted a report to the Hong Kong Railway Inspectorate. KCRC also commissioned a group of professionals and academics to review the results of the investigation and to provide independent professional advice. The expert group's advice had been incorporated into the new measures for track inspection and maintenance, and KCRC would review the measures in six months. [Press release]
13.10.04PRESS MTRCL appointed a leading international rail expert to carry out a comprehensive review of MTR's service performance, the condition of its service critical assets as well as asset management practices. [Press release]
