At its meeting on 5 May 2004, the Legislative Council passed the following two bills:
At the same meeting, the Council passed the following motion with no legislative effect:
Motion on "Curbing domestic violence", moved by Hon Cyd HO Sau-lan as amended by Hon Miriam LAU Kin-yee, Hon WONG Sing-chi and Dr Hon TANG Siu-tong
"That this Council urges the Administration to make every effort to curb domestic violence, expeditiously and thoroughly review the current counselling methods, amend the Domestic Violence Ordinance, take a stronger lead in co-ordinating the efforts of various government departments and voluntary agencies, allocate more resources and optimize the use of existing resources, and step up training to enhance the ability and vigilance of front-line personnel to deal with cases of domestic violence; at the same time, the Administration should also join hands with non-governmental bodies in promoting family harmony, proper interpersonal relations and the neighbourhood spirit, so as to strengthen community support for families and stamp down domestic violence through concerted efforts."
