The Legislative Council ("LegCo") Panel on Security conducted a visit to the Fire Services Department's fireboat and observed a joint departmental fire exercise at Shau Kei Wan Typhoon Shelter today (29 February) to better understand the coordination amongst various departments in dealing with fire incidents at sea.

Members first boarded the Fireboat 'Excellence' to visit its marine fire-fighting, rescue and ambulance equipment and facilities.  Members then took the Fireboat 'Excellence' to Shau Kei Wan Typhoon Shelter and were briefed on the deployment and functions of fireboats, as well as the marine fire-fighting and rescue strategy in Hong Kong waters by representatives of the Fire Services Department.

Members also observed a joint-departmental fire exercise to learn more about the coordination amongst the Fire Services Department, the Hong Kong Police Force and the Marine Department in dealing with fire incidents at sea.  The fire exercise showed the fire-fighting operations at typhoon shelter by marine police launches and fireboats.  The large-scale water monitors of the Fireboat 'Excellence' were also demonstrated.

Members who participated in the visit included members of the Panel, Hon IP Kwok-him (Chairman), Dr Hon LAM Tai-fai, Hon MA Fung-kwok and Dr Hon Kenneth CHAN Ka-lok; as well as Hon Steven HO Chun-yin and Hon POON Siu-ping who are non-Panel Members.
