I.Election of Chairman

Miss Christine LOH was elected Chairman of the Bills Committee.

II.Submissions on the Bill

2. Members noted that letters/submissions had been received from 24 individual/bodies and 18 of them had indicated their wish to address the Bills Committee. Members agreed that the Clerk should invite views from other relevant organizations. Dr LEONG Chi-hung undertook to provide names of these organizations to the Clerk.

III.Dates of future meetings

3. In anticipation that an vacant slot for the Bills Committee would be available in two weeks’ time, members agreed to schedule tentatively the following meetings to receive briefing from the Administration/Member-in-charge on the Bills and to meet deputations:

  1. Thursday, 5 June 1997 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am ; and
  2. Friday, 6 June 1997 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.

In view of the time constraint, members further agreed that deputations should be categorized so that the Bills Committee could meet them in groups.
