Amend the Protection of the Harbour Ordinance.
Enacted by the Provisional Legislative Council.
1. Short title
This Ordinance may be cited as the Protection of the Harbour (Amendment) Ordinance 1997.
2. Long title substituted
The long title to the Protection of the Harbour Ordinance (106 of 1997) is repealed and the following substituted--
"An Ordinance to protect and preserve the harbour by establishing a presumption against reclamation in the central harbour.".
3. Interpretation
Section 2 is amended by repealing the definition of "reclamation" and substituting--
""reclamation" (填海工程) means any works or project carried out for the purpose of reclaiming land from the sea-bed or foreshore so that it may be used for dry land purposes;".
4. Section heading amended
The heading to section 3 is amended by adding "central" before "harbour".
Explanatory Memorandum
This Bill seeks to revise the definition of "reclamation" and to effect textual amendment to the long title for the better implementation of the objective of protecting the harbour by establishing a presumption against reclamation in the central harbour.
