Solicitors (Professional Indemnity) (Amendment) Rules 1999 (L.N. 218)

These Rules amend the Solicitors (Professional Indemnity) Rules (Cap. 159 sub. leg.) to :

  1. exempt the Hong Kong Solicitors Indemnity Fund Limited ("the Company") from providing indemnity in respect of losses arising out of claims which arise from or are connected with the fact that any computer equipment is not Year 2000 compliant;

  2. provide that the above exemption does not apply to a claim where the computer equipment in question is not owned or operated by the indemnified and the claim arises solely from advice given by the indemnified to his clients in the course of his business of practising as a solicitor;

  3. provide that the Company may have discretion in each individual case as to whether or not to pay out on a claim arising from or connected with the fact that any computer equipment is not Year 2000 compliant; and

  4. make technical amendments to the Chinese text of the principal Rules.

Estate Agents (Determination of Commission Disputes) Regulation (L.N. 125 of 1999) (Commencement) Notice 1999 (L.N. 219)

This Notice appoints 1 November 1999 as the day on which the Estate Agents (Determination of Commission Disputes) Regulation (L.N. 125 of 1999) ("the Regulation") will come into operation.

The Regulation provides for the determination by the Estate Agents Authority of disputes between licensed estate agents and their clients over the agents' commission or other fee, the procedures to be adopted in the determination proceedings; the form and effect of determination and the payment of the costs of determination.
