Views Sought on Merchant Shipping (Local Vessels) Bill

Members of the public and interested groups are invited to express their views on the Merchant Shipping (Local Vessels) Bill.

The Bill, gazetted on 19 March 1999 and introduced into the Legislative Council on 31 March 1999, seeks to consolidate and amend the law relating to local vessels, in particular to improve their safety, control and regulation.

A Bills Committee, chaired by Hon CHAN Kam-lam, has been formed to study the Bill. The Committee is prepared to meet concerned groups and individuals to hear their views on the Bill at its coming meeting on 24 May 1999 (Monday) at 4:30 pm.

Individuals and organizations interested in forwarding their views to the Bills Committee are requested to send their written submissions to the Chairman of the Bills Committee via the Legislative Council Secretariat at 8 Jackson Road, Central, Hong Kong on or before 17 May 1999 (Monday). They may also indicate whether they wish to appear before the Bills Committee to make oral representations.
