Issue No. 27 (19 June 2008)



At its meeting on 18 and 19 June 2008, the Legislative Council passed the following four bills:

(1)Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2007, with amendments moved by the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury at Committee Stage.

(2)Trade Descriptions (Amendment) Bill 2007, with amendments moved by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development at Committee Stage.

(3)Domestic Violence (Amendment) Bill 2007, with amendments moved by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare at Committee Stage.

(4)Buildings (Amendment) Bill 2007, with amendments moved by the Secretary for Development at Committee Stage.


At the same meeting, the Council passed the following three resolutions:

(1)Resolution moved by Hon Emily LAU Wai-hing relating to the extension of the period for amending the Building (Planning) (Amendment) Regulation 2008.

(2)Resolution moved by Hon CHOY So-yuk relating to the extension of the period for amending the Building (Refuse Storage and Material Recovery Chambers and Refuse Chutes) (Amendment) Regulation 2008.

(3)Resolution moved by Hon SIN Chung-kai relating to the extension of the period for amending the Telecommunications (Carrier Licences) (Amendment) Regulation 2008 and the Telecommunications (Level of Spectrum Utilization Fees) (Second Generation Mobile Services) (Amendment) Regulation 2008.


The following two motions not intended to have legislative effect were also passed by the Council:

(1)Motion on "Legislating to regulate debt collection practices", moved by Hon Albert CHAN Wai-yip.

(2)Motion on "Reducing the duties on motor vehicle fuels", moved by Hon LAU Kong-wah as amended by Hon Miriam LAU Kin-yee.
