LegCo President begins visit in Hungary (with photos)

The President of the Legislative Council ("LegCo"), Hon Jasper TSANG Yok-sing, is visiting Budapest in Hungary upon the invitation of the Hungarian National Assembly.

Hon TSANG began the visit on Monday (4 April) by paying a courtesy call on and attending a dinner hosted by Mr DUAN Jielong, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Hungary.

On his second day (5 April) in Budapest, Hon TSANG first met with Mr Péter SZIJJÁRTÓ, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, in the morning.  In tandem with Hungary's expanding economic and commercial relations with countries in the Asian region and with China in particular, they both shared the view that Hong Kong and Hungary should deepen their trade, commercial and social ties.

Hon TSANG then attended a working lunch hosted by Dr Márta MÁTRAI, Deputy of the Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly and the President of the Hungarian—Chinese Friendship Group.  Joined by other members of the Hungarian National Assembly, they exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, and in particular the practices of the two Legislatures.

A meeting with Mr Mihály VARGA, Minister for National Economy of Hungary, was held in the afternoon.  Mr VARGA gave Hon TSANG an introduction of the latest economic development in Hungary.  They discussed the potential opportunities for Hong Kong and Hungary to benefit from Mainland's Belt and Road Initiative.

After the meeting, Hon TSANG was interviewed by Hir TV, a Hungarian television news channel, on Hong Kong's socio-political development.

After a meeting with Dr Csaba József SZILÁGYI, Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Hon TSANG delivered a lecture at the University in the evening.  The lecture, titled "Implementation of 'One Country, Two Systems' in Hong Kong", was well received by an audience of over 50 students and faculty.  Hon TSANG talked about the evolving relationship between Hong Kong and the Central Government, and shared his insights on key political events that happened in Hong Kong since 1997.

Hon TSANG will continue his visit in Hungary today (6 April) to meet with the Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly and the Governor of the Hungarian National Bank.
