LegCo Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene visits food control checkpoint and importer's warehouse (with photos)




The Legislative Council ("LegCo") Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene conducted a visit to the food control checkpoint of the Centre for Food Safety ("CFS") at Kwai Chung Customhouse and an importer's warehouse today (17 May) to better understand the operations of CFS' surveillance on food imported by sea.

 

Accompanied by Professor Sophia CHAN Siu-chee, Under Secretary for Food and Health, Members first received a briefing by representatives of CFS on the surveillance of imported food.  Members also observed the inspection of radiation levels of food imported from Japan demonstrated by representatives of CFS.  Members then visited an importer's warehouse to learn more about the procedure of inspecting imported food.

 

Members who participated in the visit are the Chairman of the Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene, Hon Tommy CHEUNG Yu-yan, along with the Deputy Chairman, Hon Steven HO Chun-yin and Panel members, Hon Cyd HO Sau-lan and Dr Hon Helena WONG Pik-wan.
