The Legislative Council ("LegCo") Panel on Economic Development conducted a visit to the new Air Traffic Control Centre ("ATC") of the Civil Aviation Department ("CAD") today (12 July) to better understand the progress of the implementation of the new Air Traffic Management System.

During the visit, Members first received a briefing by representatives of CAD on the implementation of the new Air Traffic Management System under the phased functional implementation approach.  Members expressed concerns on the safety management of the new system and staff readiness for using it.

Members then left for the North Tower of the ATC Complex to learn more about the aerodrome traffic control operation, including the control on aircrafts taking-off and landing on the runway, as well as aircraft movements on the taxiways and parking aprons.

Panel members participating in the visit included Dr Hon LAM Tai-fai and Hon Albert CHAN Wai-yip.
