LegCo Panel on Home Affairs visits Hong Kong Sports Institute (with photos)




At the invitation of the Hong Kong Sports Institute ("HKSI"), the Legislative Council ("LegCo") Panel on Home Affairs conducted a visit to HKSI in Sha Tin today (17 January) to better understand its latest development and the training provided for elite athletes. 

 

Accompanied by the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr LAU Kong-wah; the Commissioner for Sports of the Home Affairs Bureau, Mr YEUNG Tak-keung; the Chairman of HKSI, Mr Carlson TONG; and the Chief Executive of HKSI, Dr Trisha LEAHY, Members toured around a number of athlete training facilities at the Swimming Complex and the Sports Complex at HKSI, including the Sports Medicine Centre operated by the Elite Training Science & Technology Division of HKSI.  Members were able to get a better understanding of the career development and medical support services, as well as the latest training technology for elite athletes provided by HKSI.  Members also took the opportunity to talk to the athletes to learn of their training at HKSI. 

 

Members then attended a lunch with representatives of the Home Affairs Bureau and HKSI.  They exchanged views on training of elite athletes and elite sports development in Hong Kong.

 

Members who participated in the visit included the Chairman of Panel on Home Affairs, Hon MA Fung-kwok, Panel members, Hon Paul TSE Wai-chun, Hon LEUNG Kwok-hung, Hon CHAN Chi-chuen, Hon YUNG Hoi-yan, Hon LUK Chung-hung, Hon LAU Kwok-fan and Hon Nathan LAW Kwun-chung as well as non-Panel members, Hon POON Siu-ping and Dr Hon CHIANG Lai-wan.
