Mr CHAN Kam-lam was elected Chairman of the Bills Committee.

2. In anticipation that the Bills Committee would be activated upon the vacation of a Bills Committee slot after the House Committee meeting on 4 April, the Committee agreed to commence the preparatory work, including inviting interested parties to forward representations to the Committee.

3. The Committee agreed to invite the following organisations which had commented on the draft Bill during the public consultation stage to give submissions and/or oral representations to the Committee : -

Chartered Institute of Patent Agents (UK)

Hong Kong Retail Management Association

Hong Kong Productivity Council

Hong Kong University of Science & Technology

City University of Hong Kong

Hong Kong Institute of Education

Hong Kong Bar Association

4. The Committee also agreed that the Chartered Society of Designers and the Hong Kong Designers Association should also be invited for submissions. Mrs Selina CHOW would name two other organisations for the purpose.

(Post-meeting note : Mrs Selina CHOW suggested the Design Council of Hong Kong and the Design Innovation Hong Kong Limited be added to the list.)

5. The next meeting would be held on Thursday, 17 April 1997 at 2:30 pm. Representatives of the Administration would be invited to brief the Committee on the Bill.

6. The meeting ended at 2:30 pm.
