Election of Chairman

Mr Samuel WONG Ping-wai, Chairman for the 1995-96 session, invited nominations for the Chairman of the 1996-97 session. Mr Samuel WONG Ping-wai was nominated by Mr Ronald ARCULLI, and seconded by Mr IP Kwok-him and Mr LEE Wing-tat. Mr Samuel WONG Ping-wai accepted the nomination.

2. There being no other nomination, Mr Samuel WONG Ping-wai was elected as Chairman of the Public Works Subcommittee (PWSC) for the 1996-97 session.

Election of Deputy Chairman

3. The Chairman called for nominations for the Deputy Chairman. Mr Albert CHAN Wai-yip was nominated by Mr LEE Wing-tat, and seconded by Mr IP Kwok-him and Mr Ronald ARCULLI. There being no other nomination, Mr Albert CHAN Wai-yip was declared elected as Deputy Chairman of the PWSC for the 1996-97 session.

Date of next meeting

4. Noting that the first regular meeting was tentatively scheduled for 6 November 1996, members expressed concern that there could be a large number of discussion items for PWSC towards the end of the legislative session and suggested advancing the date of the first meeting to 30 October 1996 so that more meetings could be held during the session.

[Post-meeting note : The Administration advised that there would be insufficient discussion papers for a meeting to be held on 30 October. With the concurrence of the Chairman, the first regular meeting will be held on 6 November 1996 as originally scheduled. The LegCo Secretariat will liaise with the Administration on the need to avoid last-minute rushes towards the end of the legislative session.]

5. The Committee was adjourned at 2:20 p.m.
