I.Election of Chairman and Deputy Chairman
(Appendix I to PLC Paper No. CB(1) 40)

Hon Ronald ARCULLI was elected as presiding member for the election meeting.

2.Mr ARCULLI reminded the meeting that members who were chairman/deputy chairman of the government advisory body relevant to the Housing Panel, as given in Appendix I of PLC Paper No. CB(1) 40, would not be eligible to stand for election.

3.Hon CHENG Hon-chung nominated Hon CHAN Yuen-han as Chairman of the Panel. Hon Mrs Selina CHOW, Hon Edward HO and Hon David CHU seconded the nomination. There being no other nominations, Mr ARCULLI declared Hon CHAN Yuen-han Chairman of the Panel. Hon CHAN Yuen-han then took over chairmanship of the meeting.

4.Hon David CHU nominated Hon Frederick FUNG Kin-kee as Deputy Chairman of the Panel. Hon Ronald ARCULLI, Hon Mrs Selina CHOW, Hon CHAN Kam-lam and Hon WONG Siu-yee seconded the nomination. There being no nominations, the Chairman declared Hon Frederick FUNG Kin-kee Deputy Chairman of the Panel.

II.Schedule of meetings for the session

5.Members agreed that future meetings of the Panel would be held on the third Monday of every month at 2:30 pm. Members noted that meetings in January 1998 and beyond would be decided nearer the time.

III.Items for discussion at the next meeting

6.Members agreed that the next two meetings would be held on Thursday, 24 July 1997, at 10:45 am and Tuesday, 19 August 1997, at 2:30 pm. The following items would be discussed at the meeting on 24 July 1997:

-Pledge for annual provision of 85,000 flats;

-Land supply for the next five years; and

-Rent increase for residential units in public rental housing estates.

(Post-meeting note: A joint meeting with the Planning, Lands and Works Panel was held on 24 July 1997 for discussion of the second agenda item.)

7.There being no other business, the meeting closed at 8:45 am.
