The Clerk advised that the purpose of the meeting was to elect the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Public Works Subcommittee, and that the election procedure had been circulated to members on 11 July 1998.

2. As members had no objection to the election procedure, the Clerk invited nominations for the Presiding Member. Mr SIN Chung-kai was nominated by Mr James TIEN and seconded by Mr CHEUNG Man-kwong. Mr SIN accepted the nomination.

3. There being no other nomination, Mr SIN Chung-kai was declared elected as the Presiding Member.

Election of Chairman

4. Mr SIN Chung-kai invited nominations for the chairmanship. Mr HO Sai-chu was nominated by Mr CHENG Kai-nam and seconded by Mrs Miriam LAU. Mr HO accepted the nomination. Dr Raymond HO Chung-tai was nominated by Dr LEONG Che-hung and seconded by Mr Eric LI. Dr HO accepted the nomination.

5. As there were two nominations for the chairmanship, Mr SIN ordered a vote by secret ballot by the members present. The 23 members present cast their votes; Mr HO Sai-chu and Dr Raymond HO Chung-tai received 17 and six votes respectively. As Mr HO Sai-chu received a majority of the votes, he was declared elected as Chairman of the Public Works Subcommittee for the 1998-99 session.

Election of Deputy Chairman

6. Mr HO Sai-chu took the chair and called for nominations for the deputy chairmanship. Dr Raymond HO Chung-tai was nominated by Mr CHAN Kam-lam and seconded by Mr TAM Yiu-chung. Dr HO accepted the nomination.

7. There being no other nomination, Dr Raymond HO Chung-tai was declared elected as the Deputy Chairman of the Public Works Subcommittee for the 1998-99 session.

Dates of next three meetings

8. The Chairman advised that the next three meetings of the Public Works Subcommittee would be held on 22 July 1998, 23 September 1998 and 21 October 1998, all starting at 10:45 am.

9. There being no other business, the meeting ended at 2:20 pm.
