Issue No. 28 (25 June 2009)



At its meeting on 24 and 25 June 2009, the Legislative Council passed the following four bills:

(1)Voting by Imprisoned Persons Bill, with amendments moved by the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs at Committee Stage.

(2)Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill 2009, with amendments moved by the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury at Committee Stage.

(3)Supplementary Appropriation (2008-2009) Bill.

(4)Merchant Shipping (Safety) (Amendment) Bill 2009.


At the same meeting, the Council passed the following three resolutions:

(1)Resolution moved by the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs under the Race Discrimination Ordinance and the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance.

(2)Resolution moved by the Secretary for Food and Health relating to the Pharmacy and Poisons (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulation 2009 and the Poisons List (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulation 2009.

(3)Resolution moved by Hon Audrey EU Yuet-mee relating to the extension of the period for amending the Air Pollution Control (Volatile Organic Compounds) (Amendment) Regulation 2009.


The following two motions not intended to have legislative effect were also passed by the Council:

(1)Motion on "Seizing the chance to turn the risks from the 'Three Direct Links' across the Taiwan Strait into opportunities", moved by Hon Mrs Sophie LEUNG LAU Yau-fun as amended by Hon Tommy CHEUNG Yu-yan, Hon IP Wai-ming, Hon WONG Ting-kwong and Dr Hon Priscilla LEUNG Mei-fun.

(2)Motion on "Strengthening human resources in the fields of finance and trade", moved by Dr Hon Philip WONG Yu-hong as amended by Hon Mrs Regina IP LAU Suk-yee and Hon WONG Kwok-hing.
