This research studies the minimum wage system in Australia, France, Guangdong and Shenzhen of Mainland China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, the United States and Singapore. It covers the development of the minimum wage system, coverage of the minimum wage system, minimum wage rate, process of determining the minimum wage rate (including the regulatory authorities involved, criteria and procedures), characteristics of minimum wage workers, enforcement and penalty, and empirical studies evaluating the impact of the minimum wage system.

It covers: (a) historical development and coverage of the minimum wage systems, (b) process of determining the minimum wages, (c) minimum wage levels and characteristics of minimum wage workers, (d) enforcement and penal provisions, and (e) studies on the impact of minimum wage changes on the level of employment, poverty, income distribution, inflation and competitiveness of the economy.

This research studies the statutory regulatory regimes of the smoke-free workplace in 10 selected places, namely Ireland, Norway, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, the State of California in the United States, the State of Queensland in Australia, and the Province of British Columbia in Canada. It covers several aspects: statutory smoke-free places, places exempt from the smoking ban, legal responsibility of persons in charge of statutory smoke-free places, enforcing authorities, compliance with the smoking ban, transitional arrangements for the hospitality sector, economic impact of the smoking ban on the hospitality sector, and legal challenge to the smoking ban.
