2.3 Number of Broadcast Hours
The licensees broadcast 50 893 hours of television programmes a week6 to the viewers in Hong Kong in August 2007, representing a 7.1% increase over 2006. The four channels of ATV and TVB provided a total of 644 broadcast hours per week (0.6% increase over 2006) as at August 2007 while the 271 channels of domestic pay television programme service licensees, 43 193 hours (9% increase over 2006). The 42 channels of non-domestic television programme service licensees receivable in Hong Kong provided a total of 7 056 hours (2.3% decrease over 2006) per week. The weekly number of broadcast hours for sound broadcasting (including RTHK) was 2 184 (same as 2006). The respective weekly hours of different categories of licensees as at August 2007 are shown in Figure 5.
