Overseas Visit
In February 2005, the BA has conducted a successful visit
to the United Kingdom (UK). Led by the BA Chairman, a BA delegation
visited the UK from 21 February to 25 February to examine
the latest development of the broadcasting sector in the UK.
The BA had a very useful discussion with senior members of
the Office of Communications, the newly converged regulator,
on the challenges facing the unified regulator in the multimedia
age and their gradual shift from placing emphasis on active
regulation based on prescriptive rules to economic and competition-based
regulation. The delegation also learnt about the progress
of digital terrestrial television and the latest development
of the UK broadcasting industry through meetings with the
Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the Advertising Standards
Authority and major broadcasters such as the ITV plc. and
BSkyB.
